A little late, but I might as well post this now.

One of the inspirations of the X games and EVE. Frontier released a remake of their 1984 Elite, the first of its kind. Updates are kind of slow but they are going through. It also offers one of the best VR experiences so far. I just need a HOTAS to complete my setup so the pilot's arms would properly sync with your movement; it doesn't move with a kb/mouse setup.

In any case, games like these may not be your cup of tea, but I might as well share some of my adventures in the black with this thread in the future. At least while I'm waiting for No Man's Sky and Star Citizen.

For now, here are some of the tools I've been using for the game:

http://inara.cz - some kind of ED-based pilot profiler/organizer. You can also form up a wing here with other pilots. Here's a sample profile.
http://www.edshipyard.com - a pretty reliable ship builder that monitors the cost of each module and armament; insurance fee included.
http://coriolis.io - another ship builder, with a fancier interface.
http://www.voiceattack.com - had it set up to command my ship with voice commands, and have it respond back with a 3rd-party AI voice.
http://www.radiosidewinder.com - ED fan-made radio station.
http://eddb.io - one of the trading tools out there, good for also looking for looped trading routes.

Maybe I'll put pictures and videos, but that's for another time.

Been playing this as I got interested after talking to Goat for a while and watching videos.

Money well spent, I say. Immerssive as hell, combat is nice, not one-dimensional "just a space combat sim" etc.

Highly recommended. With rich lore, in-game politics, and economy too.

and Roleplay. lol.

Maybe you guys can tease us with some pictures of your ships? I'm sure people would want to see what's in store for them when they start their first journey.

Went to the Leonard Nimoy Station in ED (yes, he has a memorial in the game). Took a while to travel from Aisling's territory though, even in an Asp.

Holy wow, that's a really beautiful space colony interior. Are the exteriors to scale as well? Can you fly freely inside?

Yeah you can. There's a limited time given when you dock or launch, so as long as you don't loiter near the other landing pads, you should be fine. Or the station will open fire on you. Frontier's also planning to make planetary landings like in their second Elite game (and No Man's Sky), with an addition to on-foot free roaming in the future, kinda like what Star Citizen already has. As for scaling, yes they do - at least that's what the developers say.

And a video with the Oculus DK2. You'd have to enlarge the video a little or go on full screen though; I wasn't able to crop out the other eye.

Wow, this station seems to be prettier compared to others. Any reason why?

It's a memorial station, in memory of Leonard Nimoy - the guy who played Spock. There are other random stations with the same interiors though, but they're not too common.

How hard is it to play this game with Occulus Rift? Can the controls be intuitive enough via joystick only?

Given the complexity of the game, I'm sure a keyboard is required, but that may be difficult to use with a VR headset on.

It takes a while to get used to, but as days went by, I never had to look at the keyboard anymore, and I'm typing pretty much anything and everything in-game while wearing the headset/goggles.

Joystick only? Doubtful. From what I remember, some players had some trouble key-mapping functions to their sticks. You might still need a HOTAS so you can use flight assist off mode properly though. I haven't modified my control scheme yet, and the default mouse setup I'm using is possibly the worst configuration for Newtonian-physics flight. I just use that mode for quick-turning and gliding around places.

Also, ended up forming a wing with Mjting and hunted down some criminal elements in another asteroid field.
