The massacre in Maguindanao is the result of years of neglect by the Manila-based government. Mindanao has been decaying for years, and if anyone tries to change the status quo from within, they get murdered. It's precisely why so many media people were covering the event. It's highly likely that nothing substantiative will come out of the investigation because the Ampatuans helped GMA win the 2004 election.
