...his recently purchased 3.2GHz Core i7 Extreme 965 CPU. Paired with an Asus P6T motherboard and running at the stock clock rate it scored a 5,606 in 3DMark06, in-line with what earlier testers found. O/C'ed up to 3.8GHz it delivered a tidy 6,608, a mark that surely gives it control of all benchmarks and, thus, the PC universe.

But...

Many early articles suggest that i7's design is not ideal for gaming performance. In a test done on leaked hardware, a Core i7 940 compared to a QX9770 shows the Core i7 is slower than Yorkfield clock for clock in 2 games while being faster in the other two. Difference in all cases are small

"Core i7 is not the best processor for old games, or rather games at present, but in future, every big title would be constructed around multi process and Direct 10+. So if you want to play well a game of that kind, you better get equipped with a Intel Core i7, since that’s where i7 is meant to stretch its wings and fly high.

In a word, Core i7 is the processor of the future and for the future."

Still, the i7 sounds like a no-brainer. You're getting good performance to run the current generation of games, and you're well-equipped to take on the next ones.

Does anyone have a ballpark figure (preferably in pesos) as to how much this + motherboard is going cost when it gets here?

Related to the i7 chip; it's recently started to get included in high end laptops.

OMG DO WANT (at least just to look at, 80k is ouch), srsly! Oh and I vaguely remember a discussion of sorts about getting a PC with you guys. So, right now, is it about time to plan getting a desktop PC with the i7?
