Live Action Gaiking Movie Adaptation

A Hollywood treatment of the classic super robot anime Gaiking was recently announced at the Tokyo International Anime Fair. From the trailer, it looks like this classic super robot show will be getting a very gritty treatment and will feature current generation movie CGI. Gaiking is probably more known outside Japan as part of the Force Five series which also included other famous super robots such as Dangard Ace (Planetary Robot Dangard Ace) Starvengers (Getter Robo G) Grandizer (UFO Robot Grendizer) Spaceketeers (Starzinger). Take a look at the awesome trailer, along with the original Gaiking OP so you can compare and contrast the differences after the jump:

The Closest We’ve Gotten to a Live-Action Macross Film

Sadly, its only a series of ads for "Fever Macross" a new Pachinko game machine, though it should give everyone an idea on how a live-action adaptation of Macross could look like. Speaking of a live action adaptation of Macross, I dread the thought and pity the poor soul who will play the role of intergalactic bimbo Lynn Minmay.

Star Wars Uncut: Fan-Made Star Wars Remake

Starwars uncut

Think you can do a better job than George Lucas in directing a Star Wars film? Here's your chance at 15 seconds of fame by participating in Star Wars Uncut. This is a fan collaboration done by various Star Wars fans around the world, with each tagging a particular scene from Episode 4: A New Hope and re-making it in their own vision, 15 seconds at a time.

It'll be interesting how fans will interpret and re-make the more spectacular scenes in the movie such as the Red Squadron vs. the Death Star scene as forum member Fox has pointed out. That and how the various fan versions of Chewbacca might turn out.

Thanks to Grim for the heads up.

TO Science Fiction CG Movie

TO_title_2

A new science fiction CG anime simply titled "TO" is going to be released in Japan and will be directed by veteran director Fumihiko Sori, who also directed the science fiction CG film Vexille in 2007 and produced the Appleseed film in 2005.

TO is an adaptation of the manga "2001 ya Monogatari" (released as "2001 Nights" outside Japan), specifically the "Symbiotic Planet" and "Elliptical Orbit" chapters. The manga's story revolves around mankind's voyages into space, describing the possibilities we might face, and the challenges mankind may encounter during this undertaking.
