Normally, you'd hear parents telling their kids to eat more vegetables. In light of recent events however, supply-strapped families in RP may have to go carnivore with their dining habits.

Life-Size Tetsujin-28 (Gigantor) Officially Opens to the Public

Gigantor_tetsujin_28go-thumb-550x393-24903

Super Robots, not to be outdone by the unveiling of the life sized Gundam statue a few months ago, have responded with a life sized statue of their own kind. Tetsujin-28 (known as Gigantor in the west) was finally opened to the public today in all its 1:1 scale glory after months of construction. For those who are curious, Tetsujin 28 distinguishes itself by being one of the first animated mecha TV shows in Japan, thus helping establish the mecha genre. The franchise has further spawned three animated shows, two live-action movies, and a live action TV series that pre-dates the anime. See the opening ceremony of the life sized Tetsujin 28 statue after the jump.

Mind Reading Robots? Are We Now Doomed?

thoughtrobotThis little mechanical buddy is now on the fore-front of robotics research by actually being able to read a users thoughts and respond to them in kind. Taku Ichikawa of the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo is credited with this remarkable innovation, which allowed him to successfully compete in the Robo-One amateur bi-pedal robotics league which includes events like robo-soccer and robo-battles.

What are the implications for us? We are now one step closer to being able to control mecha like we see in Anime w/o the overly complicated controls. Other than that, further development of this technology will allow us to operate machinery more precisely than ever before. Surgeries can be performed by robots controlled by a human as accurate w/o having to require the delicate hands of a doctor, which can be subjected to stress and other environmental factors that degrade their performance. Physically challenged people with robotic prosthetic limbs controlled by this mechanism may allow them to move like other humans given enough practice and development of this technology. The possibilities are quite big for this emerging technology.

Typhoon Ketsana: The Aftermath

Epic Flood

After a month's worth of rain was poured over the course of a day, an unprepared Philippines was brought to an absolute standstill. Water levels rose too quickly, which flooded major highways, schools, hospitals, and pretty much everything else. In some areas, the flood was several stories high.

Even with the subsiding rain, the calamity has not yet passed as several people are still stuck in their own homes in areas where the flood waters have yet to recede. Many don't have homes to go back to anymore. Some don't have families to go back to anymore.

But the worst has a way of bringing out the best, as shown by the relief drives and rescue efforts currently being undertaken. If the weather continues to be cooperative, things should be better by the middle of the week.

Disney Buys Marvel Entertainment for $4 Billion

Berserker DuckOne large entertainment deal has been announced recently, as The Disney Company decides to buy Marvel Entertainment for a total of $4 billion USD. This means that Marvel Entertainment's famous and iconic characters such as Captain America and Wolverine can and may co-exist with equally iconic characters such as Donald Duck and Goofy. What it means for us gamers, is the chance to see more berserk cross-universe games like Kingdom Hearts with Marvel characters, and maybe succeeding Marvel Ultimate Alliance games featuring a couple or so Hidden Mickeys.

Under the control of Disney, which is known to have a family-friendly disposition, the next issue of Marvel Comics may look something like this:

A Tribute to Ninoy

I'd like to take this chance to thank this great person, who, with only his unwavering spirit, started a wave of human will that would change the face of Philippine Democracy and the Filipino people forever. Benigno Aquino, Jr.

While watching the short film on TV this past Sunday, I went through mixed emotions as I saw this great person going through the last days of his life. He made me think a lot about how a single person could experience so much strife, and yet hold strong and keep his purity and his will. I honestly admire his personality, the way I would have admired a father. To the end, I shed tears for his passing, like how I would have cried for a father that I never had.

In the short time that I watched his story, I have learned more about being a Filipino, the way he envisioned us to be, more than any personality in our time here and now could ever teach.

Thank you, Ninoy. By knowing how you lived your life as a Filipino, your indomitable spirit may rest in the people of today.
